ABSTRACT

Approximately 50% of all tumors occur in people over the age of 65 years. Chemotherapy has demonstrated beneficial effects in the treatment of cancer, but it has principally been studied in patients under the age of 65 years. The question remains, how does chemotherapy effect elderly patients, who are frequently afflicted with cancer? In this chapter, we discuss the changes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics associated with aging that alter the outcome of chemotherapy.
