KEY POINTS • Vacuum and forceps assisted delivery have the same
indications. There are no circumstances where operative vaginal delivery is definitely indicated. Alternatives, including allowing the patient to labor longer, oxytocin augmentation, and cesarean delivery, should always be considered.
