Definition Placental abruption (also known as abruptio placentae) is defined as a premature separation of a normally implanted placenta.
Signs and symptoms Signs and symptoms of placental abruption are shown in Table 25.1.1 About 10% of abruption present with only concealed (occult) bleeding. Occasionally the presenting sign is fetal death.
