ABSTRACT

Anemia is a frequent complication of cancer. It may be caused by a variety of mechanisms that are unrelated or only indirectly related to the underlying neoplastic disease, such as blood loss, iron and vitamin deficiencies, infec­ tious complications, hypersplenism, or endocrine disturbances. Clonal disor­ ders of hematopoiesis are often associated with anemia (Table 1).
