ABSTRACT

Previous chapters dealt with the postulated representation of the elastic flexural rigidity in the form of a polynomial. The following question begs an answer: is it possible to determine closed-form solutions for buckling and vibration problems with non-polynomial flexural rigidity? An affirmative reply to this question is provided in this chapter. Some other seemingly provocative questions are posed and elucidated. Most intriguingly, the approximate method of successive approximation is revived here to derive closed-form solutions.
