ABSTRACT
Thoracic ultrasound provides an alternative imaging tool for the pleura, lung, and
associated structures. Recognition of this role was slow in part due to the belief that air
would not allow useful ultrasound images to be generated (1). The reality is that this
application-regarding this largest and vital organ-was accessible since the early days of
ultrasound imaging.
