ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to provide a concise review of the electrophysiology of skeletal muscle fibers and the mechanism of the coupling of contraction to membrane excitation. It is not intended to provide extensive documentation of the statements made and views presented, because the chapter would become unwieldy and too lengthy for the page limitations imposed. Therefore, references are limited to key articles and reviews.
