ABSTRACT

In the competitive toxicology and pharmaceutical industries, the time from drug development and preclinical testing to clinical trial is critical. Traditional industrial research approaches do not fulfill the demands of current drug development schedules. HTS uses laboratory automation to collect vast amounts of toxicity and pharmacological data and reliably profiles a range of biological activities and the information eventually is incorporated into large chemical libraries. The availability of these libraries and robotic systems for bioassays allows synthesis and testing of thousands of compounds daily.
