2.1 Denitions and examples
In the last chapter we considered only nite dimensional Hilbert spaces.
We now present the innite dimensional theory, paying particular at-
tention to the analogies between Hilbert spaces and sets. As we saw in
Chapter 1, this analogy is grounded in physical reality, and it will be
the basis of all of our subsequent work.
