Insomnia is a complaint characterized by difficulty falling asleep (sleep latency of >30 minutes), insufficient sleep (total sleep time of <5.5-6 hours), numerous nocturnal awakenings, an early morning awakening with inability to resume sleep, or non-restorative sleep. Common daytime complaints include somnolence, fatigue, irritability, and difficulty concentrating and performing everyday tasks.
