ABSTRACT

Of all the recent technical innovations for synthetic chemistry, the development of scientic microwave apparatus ranks very high in its impact on drug discovery.3 The use of microwave heating for synthesis of potential leads offers signicant advantages over conventional approaches, including reduced reaction time, improved yield, and increased productivity. The efciency of microwave technology is further enhanced by the combination with other novel approaches such as combinatorial chemistry, solid-phase and solution-phase parallel synthesis, and continuous-ow processing. Integration of the synthesis platform with automated purication, evaporation, high-throughput screening, and cheminformatics modules further facilitates the drug discovery process.4
