ABSTRACT

Banana is a leading fruit crop of the tropics. It is cultivated for its edible fruits. Ripe fruits are consumed fresh, while unripe fruits are cooked as a vegetable. Almost all parts of banana plants are used in one form or another, such as for wrappers, fibers, in medicine, in religious functions, as cattle feed, etc. Bananas are a rich source of energy, and they contain high amounts of carbohydrates, calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and vitamins A, B, and C.
