ABSTRACT

Strawberry is a cool-season and cool-region crop. It grows well in cooler mountainous areas. It is largely cultivated in North America and Europe. The major strawberry-growing countries are Australia, Canada, England, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, Turkey, and the United States. Ripe fruits are eaten fresh or served with ice cream or in fruit salad. Fruit is aggregate and rich in vitamin C and amino acids. Strawberry is a stoloniferous perennial herb belonging to family Rosaceae. The chromosome number is 2n = 16. Leaves are light green and large; flowers are yellow and are self-and cross-pollinated. Fruit is an aggregate of small achenes, sweet, and red to dark red. Seeds and runners are used for propagation. Seeds are ex­ tracted from ripe fruits, washed, dried, and packed tor storage.
