ABSTRACT

Walnut is native to Iran and the surrounding areas. It is extensively culti vated in the temperate regions of Bulgaria, China, France, Iran, Italy, Mex ico, Romania, Turkey, and the United States, where summers are relatively warm. All plant parts of walnut are used. Immature fruits are used in the preparation of pickles, marmalades, and juice. Walnut is rich in proteins, fats, and minerals, such as phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium, and in vitamin B. Walnut oil is used in cosmetics. Trees are planted for landscap ing and ornamental purposes. Its wood is highly valued for making various types of furniture.
