ABSTRACT
The considerable difculty of trace element analysis in a high-salt matrix such as seawater, estuarine water, or brine is clearly reected in the literature. The extremely high concentrations of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, and halogens, combined with the extremely low levels of transition metals and other elements of interest, make direct analysis by most analytical techniques difcult or impossible.
