ABSTRACT

The pharmaceutical industry is aiming to develop improved and efficient manufacturing processes to address current market challenges. Stronger competition among drug manufacturers and increasing government regulations over prescriptions have endured particular focus on production costs. Pharmaceutical substances are still commonly acknowledged as the backbone of modern medicinal therapy. This fact is driving research and development (R&D) processes toward more effective drug treatments for the wide variety of human diseases, with interesting developments in the biotechnology sector. Biopharmaceuticals have been gathering particular attention in this context due to its efficiency in the treatment of complex health diseases, including cancer, autoimmune and inflammatory disorders, organ transplant rejection, and many more are in clinical trials. However, the complexity of the production process

deals with high manufacturing costs to assure its mass distribution. And unlike many areas of the process industry, the development of decision tools to support the production management of these biochemical processes have been fairly fostered.
