ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the detailed algebraic methodologies to set the targets for a fixed scheduled batch process involving fixed flow operations with only a single contaminant. These methodologies are applicable to both semicontinuous and truly batch processes. The concept of prioritized cost, originally introduced by Shenoy and Bandyopadhyay (2007) for continuous process, is extended for targeting multiple resources in batch processes. Initially, targeting methodology for special cases when there is only one external resource is explained. Subsequently, a general methodology for targeting multiple resources in batch processes is given. These methodologies are proven mathematically and hence, guarantee optimality. The applicability of the methodology is demonstrated with various illustrative examples.
