ABSTRACT
The increasing list of xenobiotics discharged in the aquatic environment is a great risk to the conservation of biodiversity of aquatic organisms. Complex mixtures of organic compounds, inorganic metals, nanoparticles and other contaminants can cause metabolic disorders to the exposed organisms through different mechanisms of action; in some cases these disorders can cause mortality at very low levels of exposure.
