ABSTRACT

Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are those systems where the physical processes are controlled by the computing and communication technologies. The prime objective of CPS is to examine the behavior of the physical process and, in turn, trigger actions to alter them. CPS fundamentally comprises of two parts: physical processes and computational systems. The computation system (or the cyber system) is integrated with the processes (the physical system) using feedback loops obtained through sensors and actuators. The correlation between physical and cyber systems brings out new communication links, thus increasing the vulnerabilities for an attack. CPSs that provide an elegant mechanism for enhancing the correlation between the physical systems and the computation technologies are hence prone to numerous security threats in addition to the traditional cyber attacks.
