ABSTRACT

Definition/overview In the UK, ovine infectious keratoconjunctivitis (IKC) is often associated with high winds and driving snow during the winter months, which gives rise to the colloquial term ‘snow blindness’ (Figs 12.1, 12.2). Large numbers of sheep can be affected during these weather conditions. Competition at feed troughs also increases the rate of spread of this infection. IKC is more commonly seen in adults, presumably because some of the risk factors, such as severe winter weather, do not apply to growing lambs during the summer months. IKC is seen in sheep worldwide.
