ABSTRACT

The most common ovine surgical procedures such as caesarean operation, vasectomy and digit amputation are generally undertaken using paravertebral anaesthesia, spinal analgesia and intravenous regional anaesthesia (IVRA), respectively. There are presently few clinical data reporting the positive effects of preoperative non-steroidal anti-inammatory drug (NSAID) administration in sheep, but extrapolation from other species warrants their use, even when practice situations result in intravenous administration only 5-10 minutes prior to surgery.
