ABSTRACT

Empirical models are used to help describe field data, identify relationships that exist among the data items and make interpolations within the domain of the data. Simulation models are frequently used to develop an understanding of the way systems function and to make extrapolations in time and space. The data management tasks associated with the development, use and analysis of simulation models are more extensive, and often more complex, than the tasks associated with the development of statistical or other empirical models. Management of data in simulation modelling can be a formidable task. Understanding the nature and extent of the data management tasks is an essential part of an effective simulation project.
