ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 considered the structural aspects of A A C in general as well as examined in detail the design of structural elements of A A C units and panels. However, the popularity of the materials in many countries is not based solely on its structural uses. A A C combines, in one product, features which otherwise could only be found in an amalgam of several other materials. For example, A A C provides good thermal insulation as well as having good sound insulating properties for a comparatively lowdensity material. This chapter examines how these properties can be used for the practical design of elements of buildings, and discusses their performance in use.
