ABSTRACT

The Lamina ted Object Manufactur ing ( L O M ) RP technique utilizes sheet ma­ ter ia l to bu i l d layer-wise, 3-dimensional objects. Sheet mater ia l is placed on the work ing p la t form (Figure 5) and is then laminated by a heated ro l le r trav­ el l ing across the top surface i n a single reciprocal mo t ion . The adhesive under the top sheet o f the material is activated and adheres to the b o t t o m sheet. The corresponding cross-section is cut using a laser beam. This laser also crosshatches the part o f the sheet that is to be removed. The power o f the laser beam can be adjusted to the thickness o f each layer and type o f mater ia l . Postfinishing is manual and involves removal o f the crosshatched mater ial , sanding and then protective coating o f the part. The post processing may vary w i t h different materials.
