ABSTRACT
A great number of synthetic organic chemicals potentially harmful to the environment are regularly used for industrial and agricultural applications, as well as in ordinary households.
Many of these compounds may eventually, because of their use and disposal, be carried with umprocessed sewage water into sewage treatment plants. Some are degraded during the treatment process, others leave the plant together with the processed water or are deposited as part of the resulting sewage sludge.
