(3) It may be decided to proceed to Stage 2 decommissioning or ‘entombment’, in which everything other than the relatively small primary containment (for example, the reactor pressure vessel) and the concrete biological shield is removed. The bulk of the waste at this stage is inactive, but some may be contaminated with radioactive material. Monitoring of the site would continue.
