ABSTRACT

Similarly, De Silva (2007) stated that local geological conditions may have a significant influence on the amplitude and content of ground motions.

Siskind (1985) came across abnormal vibration behaviour generated by an open cut mine in Indiana, USA. The blasts generated elevated vibration levels relative to other measurements accounting for scaled distances. The blasts produced low frequencies 3-4 Hz and generated predominantly surface waves. Possible explanations behind such abnormal behaviour could be due to a blast design or structural and geological conditions.
