ABSTRACT

Abstract: The development of a "dipstick probe" for measuring the position of phase interfaces in high tcmpcrature and pressure oil/water separators is described. This uses dual modality (capacitance and ultrasonics) measurement for this difficult application.

The issues of material selection for use in the aggressive high temperature environment are presented. In pal1icular the problem of sensor materials was overcome by the use of thick-film and ceramic materials for all sensor components. A novel combined ultrasonic and capacitance thick-film sensor is described.
