Abstract.Thispaperdescribesthemethodofoperationofasystemformeasuring high-resolutionsurfacechargedensitymapsonpracticalinsulatorspecimensusing anelectrostaticprobe.Apparatusisdescribedthatcanscantheelectrostaticprobe overthesurfaceoftheinsulatorandrecordtheprobesignal.Theprocessof obtainingachargedensitymapfromtheprobesignalmeasurementsisexplained.An examplechargedistributionisshown.
