Abstract.Thecontrolledmicro-scalemovementofDNAispossibleusingDCandAC electrokinetictechniques.Thispaperdescribesthefrequencydependentdielectrophoretic trappingofDNAbypositiveDEPforces.Experimentsaredescribedwhere12kilobase pairDNAplasmids,aretrappedontheedgesofI0~-tmwidthinterdigitatedelectrodesina rangeofmediumconductivitiesandfrequencies.ThecollectionofDNAisimagedusing fluorescencemicroscopy,thedataisimageprocessedandanalysedsemi-quantitatively. TheresultspointtoaDEPcollectionratewhichhasanexponentialtimedependence. Themeasuredcollectionratesconcurwithmeasurementsofthefrequency-dependent polarisabilityoftheDNAmadeusingdielectricspectroscopy.Amethodforanalysing thedatatogivevaluesofthepolarisabilityoftheDNAisdiscussed.
