ABSTRACT

Giventhatchargeiswellknowntobetenaciouslyboundtothedroplet surfaceandisstableunderdropletevaporationuptothepointatwhichthe Rayleighlimitisencounteredthecrystalwillalsobestable.Inthisregard,it isinterestingtonotethatindirectevidenceforcrystallizationwasstumbled on,butnotrecognized,duringtheanalysisoftheRayleighburstingprocess, (cf.RothD.GandKelly,AJ,'AnalysisofthedisruptionofEvaporating ChargedDroplets',IEEETrans.onIndustryApplications,lA-19,5,pp. 771-775,September/October1983).AtthetimeRothandIwerequite perplexedtofindthattheonlywaythemodellingcouldbemadetoagree withdatawasforthesurfacechargetohavezeromobility.Onceitwas assumedthatchargewasimmobilizedonthesurfaceandcouldnotfreely moveabout,thetheoryreplicatedexperiment.Obviouslythisis circumstantialevidence,butisconsistentwiththenotionthatthechargeis lockedintoastableframeworkencompassingthesurface.
