Abafile,consistingofstackedelementsofinverted-Vcrosssection,dividesthechambersand ispositionedbetweenwire-woundinnerelectrodes.Thispermitstheorganicphasetoflow relativelyunhinderedthroughouttheunitwhilstrestrictingthetwoaqueousphasesfrom crossingcompartments.Thebafileismountedonasupportthatdividessettlerzones,inwhich aqueousdropletscoalesceoutoftheelectricdomain.Metal-depletedfeedandaqueous concentrateoutletstreamspassthroughsiphon-breakersthatallowsettlerheightcontrol.Two centre-groundedtransformerswithsinusoidaloutputsareusedtoapplyelectricfieldsacross thechambersandacrossthebafileregion.
