ABSTRACT

The male reproductive system of urodeles is composed of a pair of elongated testes, fat bodies, a system of efferent ducts, and a cloacal gland complex. The testes are attached to the dorsal side of body cavity by the mesorchium. The testes are parallel to the mesonephros, Wolffian (or mesonephric) ducts, and rudimentary Mullerian (or paramesonephric) ducts (Kingsbury, 1901; Branca, 1904; Adams, 1940; Baker and Taylor, 1964; Baker, 1965; Lofts, 1984,1987; Brizzi et ah, 1985; Norris, 1997; Uribe, 2001, 2003). Each testis is surrounded by tunica albuginea formed by a thin layer of connective tissue and superficial squamous mesothelium.
