ABSTRACT
I t is becoming common to specify in the contract that the employer w i l l release the bond on substantial complet ion or at the end o f the maintenance period, and in the January 1 9 7 9 revision o f these Condi t ions , published at p r o o f stage o f this book, c l . 10 and this f o r m o f bond provide for release at the latter t ime. The employer is then tak ing a risk (about which the engineer w i l l warn h i m i f necessary) that he w i l l have cause to regret the release i f the works collapse or serious defects appear later and the contractor is insolvent.
