ABSTRACT
This paper gives an overview of a small but important part of the overall effort required to ensure the adequate safety of offshore installations. It highlights the considerations necessary in respect of fire and explosion hazards, the techniques available for fire and explosion characterisation and the methodologies for assessing the response of structures to such extreme events.
