Abstract Self compacting concrete is a highly flowable concrete. The concrete is without con solidation capable of filling into corners of formwork through congested reinforcement without causing segregation of coarse aggregate. Mortar for self compacting concrete has been tested in a paste viscometer. The Bingham model has been used to express the concrete’s rheology in yield stress and plastic viscosity. By this method different types of filler have been investigated. The amount of and type of superplasticizers have been tested. Testing has also been done on some types of viscosity agents. The evaluation of the concrete has been done with the so-called slump flow and the L-box. The investigation has given a method and criteria to achieve self compacting concrete. Using the model, different binder, filler and admixture can be evaluated in the process to achieve a mix composition for self compacting concrete. Keywords: Mix design, self compacting concrete, super workable concrete, workabil ity.
