ABSTRACT

There are two basic families of plug valve, namely lubricated and non-lubricated. It is usual practice for the lubricated version (as shown in Figure 6) to be used for slurry duty. In some non-lubricated plug valves, a 'soft' friction reducing sleeve, manufactured from PTFE, for example, is inserted between the plug and body. With the lubricated valve, an insoluble lubricant is injected under pressure between the plug and body via grooves and channels. The action of the lubricant combats corrosion and erosion of the mating surfaces.
