ABSTRACT

Sloped and vertical lines, though treated under the one heading, are interesting for different reasons. The study of sloping lines is important if line blockage due to excessive slope is to be avoided. Vertical transport, however, is a viable concept and has been used in hoisting coal from the pit to the surface. Vertical transport works so well in some instances, that it has been proposed that ground elevation effects be handled by sections of vertical, rather than sloping, pipe in long distance slurry lines.
