ABSTRACT

This chapter will briefly present the boundary element formulation of the timeharmonic problems in acoustics and elasticity. The behavior of a dynamic system to a transient excitation where the forcing function varies sinusoidally is an important consideration in both structural and acoustic designs. We know that the response to such an excitation will also be sinusoidal. As a result, the given problem is simplified since the “time” as a variable is replaced by the frequency of oscillation, i.e., the problem is treated in the frequency domain. We will first develop the boundary element formulation of the acoustics time-harmonic analysis as it involves only scalar equations.
