ABSTRACT
The biomass program of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) encompasses a wide range of topics in resource development, direct conversion, production of fuels and chemicals, and resource recovery. In the following paper, I will outline the underlying philosophy and rationale that tie together what would seem to be a disparate collection of activities, and then I will report on some recent progress in five major program elements.
