ABSTRACT

The Energy Research Advisory Board (ERAB) has estimated that biomass could potentially supply the nation with about 10.5×1015 kJ (10×1015 Btu) by the year 2000 (Ref. 1). Similarily, the Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) has estimated that, with proper resource management and the development of efficient conversion processes, the potential contribution of biomass to U.S. energy demand could range as high as 18×1015 kJ (17×1015 Btu) per year (Ref. 2).
