ABSTRACT

Growing woody weed species under laboratory, growth chamber, greenhouse, and field nursery conditions is very useful in learning more about plant growth requirements, along with plant behavior, physiology, phenology, and response to herbicides and mechanical or physical treatment. Each species requires specific environmental conditions for survival and reproduction. The environment also influences the success or failure of herbicidal activity or other brush-control measures. In this chapter we will examine the requirements for growing woody plants on the rangelands and pastures of the Southwest, both indoors and in the field. The same principles can be applied at any location.
