ABSTRACT

The study presented in this chapter was carried out in the automobile manufacturing industry. Like many other mass production industries, this one is faced with an ageing workforce.

A recent article by Molinié and Volkoff (1993), based on a study conducted by the Ministry of Labour, offers statistical data that suggest that the 40 and over age bracket, working in the overland transport materials manufacturing industry (in which automobile manufacture is heavily represented), is liable to face difficulties in the future.
