ABSTRACT
Since major results of environmental management research have already been presented in Chapter 2, the focus of this comparison is on other case studies and less on questionnaire-based surveys of environmental management practices. The selection of these case studies shows a German bias due to their easy availability to the author. However, taking into account corresponding Anglo-Saxon literature (cf. Davis, 1991; Dillon/Fischer, 1992; Fischer/Schot, 1993; Groenewagen et al., 1995; Huisingh et al., 1986; McKinsey & Company, 1991; Morrison, 1991; Piasecki/ Asmus, 1990; Rappaport/Flaherty, 1992; Shen, 1995; Smith, 1992; Vietor/Reinhardt, 1995; Ytterhus et al., 1995), this bias should not disqualify the results of this particular comparison because of the overall similarity of environmental management features and development in western industrialized countries in spite of considerable differences in corporate culture and environmental policy style and because of the national location of the project’s case studies.
