ABSTRACT

Another possible solution is to make use of a support band, which spans between the two corners where the free and supported edges meet. This method may lead to somewhat lengthy numerical calculations and checks. Its application is demonstrated in Chapter 7 on a non-rectangular slab. Here a similar but numerically simpler method wi l l be applied in the first example, using corner-supported elements. The results of these two methods are similar, as the reinforcement is not parallel to the edges. This is a disadvantage from the point of view of construction, but it saves much reinforcement at the same time as it reduces deflections and cracks as the reinforcement is active approximately in the directions of the principal moments.
