ABSTRACT

One approach is to introduce a line of zero moment, with positive moments on one side and negative moments on the other. Span reinforcement is active within the part with positive moment and determines the load-bearing direction within that part, whereas the support reinforcement determines the load-bearing direction within the part with negative moments. Strips with span reinforcement are treated as supported on cantilevers with support reinforcement. With this approach the moment distribution can be determined in a rigorous way. The numerical calculations may become complicated, particularly when the same support reinforcement functions together with the span reinforcement in two directions.
