ABSTRACT

A new concrete mixing technique was first reported by Higuchi (1980), and then presented at the international conference on “Bond in concrete”, held at Paisley

College of Technology Scotland in June 1982, by Hayakawa and Itoh (1982). The procedure is basically the same as for mixing of conventional concrete, except that the water is divided into two portions, and poured into the mixer at two separate times. The amount of the first pour is controlled to be 25% by weight of the cement to be used including the surface moisture of the sand and gravel. Mixing was performed in a “Cumflow” pan mixer of 125kg capacity. The concrete produced by this method is also called SEC concrete (sand enveloped with cement).
