ABSTRACT

Alkali Resistant Glass Fibre can be supplied as a Roving or as Chopped Strands. The fibre imparts toughness to the finished composite but it is itself brittle and can be easily damaged during the mixing process. A glass fibre roving consists of 20 to 50 strands of fibres each containing between 50 to 200 individual filaments. The strands are wound together to form the roving. The integrity of the strand must be maintained during the production of the GRC because the breakdown of the strands into individual filaments will drastically affect the workability of the fresh mix and reduce the mechanical mproperties of the cured composite.
