ABSTRACT

Increasing the hydration time from 5 minutes to 7 hours caused remarkably l i t t le change in either the XRD or DTA traces. This suggests that after an i n i t i al burst of hydration, which formed mainly C^ A H ^ and AH3, there was a dormant period of more than 7 hours. Beyond 7 hours, f u rther hydration of the cement occurred and the amount of CA remaining decreased. The XRD and DTA peaks corresponding to AH 3 and_C3AH ^ became larger, but those due to CAH^Q, C2AHg , C^ ACH-^ and C^ AH-^ remained remarkably constant.
