ABSTRACT

For many years morphological and electrophysiological approaches dominated studies of the gustatory system of fish. This created the situation wherein a detailed knowledge of the structure and function of the gustatory system is not supported by appropriate data on taste preferences of fishes. Among recent reviews concerning the gustatory system of fish Qakubowski and Whitear, 1990; Marui and Caprio, 1992; Reutter, 1992; Reutter and Witt, 1993; Hara, 1994; Sorensen and Caprio, 1998; Hansen and Reutter, 2004) only the one by Kasumyan and D¢ving (2003) deals with fish taste preferences.
